The w/c is one of the most intimate rooms in the home. Art that adorns the bathroom is often considered unserious - usually playful, lighthearted and almost meaningless. squeeegeee critiques this boring fact and offers the opportunity to add an extra window into one’s lavatory.
The glossy 46 x 61 cm poster features a photo reminiscent of a crime scene or a search. The bright light reveals what we often want to overlook. The viewer gets a glimpse of one of the world's most recognizable landmarks from inside a crumbling washroom. The artwork invites an overblown public spectacle into a sacred space.
The prose, which comments on the feelings of sentimentality, decay, monuments, normalcy and incompleteness evoked by the photograph, is either carefully or carelessly placed upon the canvas. After all, “Image and Theory” is the ethos.
